Winter has arrived in earnest here in the Wasatch Back. Most of the resorts are reporting at least a three-foot base, and several are reporting more than four feet. By December 9th, all the ski areas in Northern Utah will be open, and we couldn't be happier! We have more snow on the way, so check out Ski Utah's updated Snow Report app to get the latest snow reports around the state. The app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. We are looking forward to a "more normal" 2022-2023 winter season, including the return of many of our favorite events. This newsletter includes details about all the great fun to be had in and around town during the coming weeks. We encourage you to bookmark it for frequent reference!

ONE MORE GIFT TO YOU - FRAUD ALERT
Along with holiday cheer, there is an important public service notice that should be aware of, particularly if you own a vacant lot. A new type of fraud is hitting the resort real estate industry. Scammers posing as property owners list properties they don’t own as “For Sale by Owners” on web portals such as Zillow and Realtor.com. Typically, the properties are listed below market prices and as such, receive strong buyer interest. |
|
|
Nationwide, numerous fraudsters have successfully completed the sale of these properties by conducting identity fraud and forging official documents in the real owner’s name. The FBI is now involved and some perpetrators are being caught. The Park City Board of Realtors® is keenly aware of this scam and recently identified seven properties in Park City, Heber, and Midway as fraudulent land listings on Zillow; the Summit County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the matter. None of the bogus listings were included on the local Park City multiple listing service.
To safeguard your property, we recommend you do a weekly search on Zillow.com for the lot you own, to make sure scammers haven’t falsely listed your property. Reports of fraudulent listings should be reported to this website.
Summit County residents owning vacant lots are also encouraged to utilize the fraud guard tool available through the Summit County Recorder’s Office. By recording a name with the county, it can provide an early warning if fraud is being committed in that name. |
