New Year, New Happenings!

Snow, snow, and more snow! That's the news along the Wasatch Back. With our inboxes flooded with powder alerts on a daily basis, we felt a focus on snow was in order. Long-time locals agree that we haven't seen this much snow, this early, in several decades.

With the Sundance Film Festival kicking off on January 19th and running through January 29th, we've highlighted numerous on-snow activities. As locals know all too well that this is the time of year when the slopes are wide open for our enjoyment. A word of caution however; the snow from this never-ending storm cycle has been denser than normal, so be sure to check in with the Utah Avalanch e Center before you head out, particularly if venturing into the backcountry.

The other great news accompanying all this snow is that our snowpack is in great shape. At the moment, the NRCS SNOTEL sites are reporting that our snowpack is over 200% of the median, which is phenomenal news for our reservoirs as well as our outlook for summer water sports, golf, and mountain biking.

SNOTEL

SNOTEL is an automated system of snowpack and related climate sensors in remote backcountry weather stations that measures snow and transmits the data wirelessly. These sites are primarily focused on measuring both snow depth and the amount of water contained in the snow. Learn more here.

Moguls Skier Finishes 3rd in France

Local moguls skier Cole McDonald flipped and skied his way onto the World Cup podium for the first time. His quest for his first World Cup podium finally came to fruition on December 16th in Alpe d’Huez in France. He finished his moguls event in third place, with a score of 75.17. He is part of our KW family, and we couldn't be more proud, as many of us have watched him compete since he was a youngster.

In other airport-related news, Delta Airlines just renewed their contract with the airport and announced that free onboard WiFi will be the norm on all flights leaving SLC effective February 1.

PARK CITY PIZZA GUY DELIVERS ON SLED DURING SNOWSTORM

When roads weren't an option during a recent snowstorm, "Jeff the Domino's Guy," was one determined pizza delivery man. He used a sled to feed Park City patrons, and the footage went viral immediately!

With all of this snow, our Fire Safety professionals would like to remind everyone to take a minute to shovel out your neighborhood hydrants:

Remove any snow and ice.
Clear a 3' perimeter around the hydrant.
Clear a path from hydrant to the street.

The world’s most elite mogul ski athletes compete in the 2023 Intermountain Healthcare Freestyle International Ski World Cup on Deer Valley's world-renowned slopes in the Snow Park area. The event is free for spectators, so bundle up and watch the world's top mogul skiers and aerialists on February 2nd (moguls), 3rd (aerials), and 4th (dual moguls).

MOUNTAINTOWN CORNHOLE
Tuesdays | Dejoria Center | Kamas

Weekly cornhole tournaments are held every Tuesday so that players can get familiar with competitive cornhole in a comfortable club setting. Some players are regular tournament players, and others are entirely new to tournaments. Bags fly at 6:30 pm!
