Summer was short and sweet this year, and it's hard to believe that Labor Day is already here. Yet, we are always glad to embrace the arrival of autumn. Fall in the Wasatch Back is painted not just with the hues of falling leaves, but also the vibrant energy of events like Swiss Days, Miners' Day, and Howl-O-Ween.
While you mark your calendars, remember that dates and details might shift due to weather or unforeseen factors. We have provided links to keep you updated. Hope to see you around at one of these great fall events!

Deer Valley® Resort made a public statement on Thursday, August 24th, revealing that they have reached a long-term operations agreement with Extell Development Company to manage the area that was previously set to be known as Mayflower Mountain Resort. The partnership has the potential to offer skiers access to as many as 5,726 acres of terrain, which is nearly triple the current size of Deer Valley. This is one of the most significant expansions in the history of resort development in North America, as it positions Deer Valley as one of the largest ski areas in the United States.
|
|
MAJOR TERRAIN EXPANSION Here are the new additions:
- 16 chairlifts
- 135 ski runs
- 4 mountains
- 3,700 acres
- New Village and Portal
- Revitalization of Existing Facilities
- Snow Park Base Transformation
|
|
|
The two areas will merge under the Deer Valley® brand, offering skiers access to the entire area using a single pass. This includes the Ikon Pass offered by Alterra. At present, Ikon Pass or Ikon Base Pass Plus users can spend a maximum of seven days skiing at Deer Valley after booking in advance. Alterra's head, Jared Smith, anticipates a comparable setup for the expanded area in the 2025-26 season.
Additionally, it is worth noting that the expanded terrain will be exclusive to skiers. Activities like snowboarding, snow biking, and other winter modes of transportation won't be allowed. This was highlighted by Deer Valley's CEO, Todd Bennett, during the project's launch at Silver Lake Lodge on Thursday. Once this new terrain is fully operational, Deer Valley foresees having 37 lifts that cover 135 slopes over 3,700 acres. As Deer Valley shared, the total vertical will measure at 3,090 feet. This would place it just behind Snowbird's 3,240 feet, making it one of Utah's biggest, and among the top six in the nation.

Summit County has approved the purchase of approximately 9,000 acres near Jeremy Ranch in East Canyon, representing its most significant open space acquisition to date. The $55 million agreement for the 910 Cattle Ranch includes a four-year option and a monthly lease. Funds will come partly from a $50 million open space bond approved in November 2021.
The parcel's southern boundary connects to the 24-7 Trail and the Flying Dog Loop, potentially enabling spur or connector trails. To the north, it neighbors East Canyon State Park and is close to the Mormon Pioneer Trail. Jess Kirby, the director of the Summit County Lands and Natural Resources Department, expressed, “The property size and its connectivity to other protected lands is truly incredible. This is a rare, once-in-a-lifetime property, a legacy for our community.”
