During the height of the pandemic, many people adopted dogs and cats to keep themselves company. Last year, the media ran a number of reports about these "pandemic pets" being returned to shelters. Fortunately, the ASPCA released the results of a reassuring survey, finding that 90 percent of dogs and 85 percent of cats adopted during the pandemic were still in their homes a year later.
Unfortunately, with the pandemic-fueled housing boom and resulting uptick in prices, there is now a housing crunch that appears to be affecting our furry friends. When there aren’t enough places to live, finding an affordable, pet-friendly rental can be very difficult. Because of this, metropolitan shelters are dealing with a new round of animal surrenders. Shelters are asking for help and volunteers. Below are some local organizations assisting our furry friends and ways that you can help.

Nuzzles & Co. is a local non-profit that runs a pet adoption facility on the east side of the Tanger Factory Outlets. They have a much larger ranch in Brown’s Canyon where the non-profit, no-kill organization works to find homes for dogs and cats. Formerly known as Friend of Animals Utah, Nuzzles hosts the annual Barking Ball fundraiser and has a very active social media presence. |

| Paws for Life has a vision to end animal homelessness and euthanasia. You can help them rescue and find loving homes for shelter pets through monetary donations or by contributing as a volunteer or foster family. If you want to visit their Heber City location at 89 N 100 E, be advised that current sewer line construction on 100 E could add a few extra minutes to your trip. |

| In addition to their full spectrum of dog services (more on that below), Fetch runs a private, non-profit called Fetch Cares. Located in Kamas, Fetch Cares is Utah’s first animal fospice (foster facility + hospice). Their mission is to provide comfort and care for animals with exceptional needs through people with exceptional needs, including teens and adults with different abilities, school groups, elderly care facilities, and other groups wanting an enjoyable volunteer experience. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is one of the most incredible animal sanctuaries around. If you're ever in southern Utah, you must visit. The massive sanctuary located outside Kanab is home to over 1,600 dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, horses, and more. It is truly incredible and set in a beautiful location. |

There are no fences or cages in any of their lodging offerings, and their furry guests receive four to six hours of active play. VETERINARY SERVICES
It's no surprise that we'd have a wonderful selection of compassionate vets in a dog loving community like ours, all of whom are dedicated to providing loving care to your pups.
In the Park City area, White Pine Veterinary Clinic is the most established vet in town and was once the only vet!
Dr. Prior at Park City Animal Clinic is well loved for his "always open" business model and for all the charitable work he has done with the rescue dogs from Nuzzles & Co.
Powder Paws might have the easiest name to remember amongst the skiers, and they are a highly regarded full-service veterinarian office known for their rehabilitation services, which includes an underwater treadmill, agility, and laser treatments. They also offer acupuncture and chiropractic services, in addition to regular, loving care for your pooch.
Silver Creek Animal Clinic offers canine and feline services, in addition to other veterinary services.
Relatively new to town is Bark City Vet, which is located in the former Bill White Farms complex on Hwy. 224. They are a full service surgical center offering extensive training opportunities for the veterinary community.
In the Heber Valley, two of the most popular vets are the Wasatch Animal Clinic and Arcadia Veterinary Clinic, the latter of which also offers equine and livestock care. |

| DOG-FRIENDLY SWIMMING SPOTS Many of our mountain dog breeds love to swim. In addition to the Willow Creek dog pond, there’s a popular dog pond between Pinebrook and Summit Park near Woodward Resort. It’s right off the paved trail near the roundabout, with very limited parking, so it is usually best to walk in. |

| Both the Jordanelle Reservoir and Rockport Reservoir welcome dogs but with prohibitions on beaches; it’s ideal to bring them on your boat or kayak/SUP. In the Heber Valley, there are multiple access points with parking to walk along the Provo River with nice little eddies for your pups to enjoy. Finally, the Uinta Mountains are FULL of lakes, and dogs are allowed at all of them! |

| Willow Creek Park (4460 Split Rail Lane) is an enclosed 2.4 acre fenced area with a large dog-friendly pond, featuring both a zero-entry point and a floating dock for dogs to jump from if they are tempted. There is a 1/3-mile soft surface trail along with a 1/2 acre area of "fetch" space. The park also features an agility course and 3 small shade shelters for owners to enjoy while keeping an eye on the pups. |

Quinn's Junction Dog Park (600 Gillmor Way) Located next to the National Ability Center and Park City Hospital, this park is just a few minutes from downtown Park City. With a sizable fenced-in location and the trails of Round Valley nearby, this is a win-win for the owner who wants to jog with their dog and then take fido over to meet some furry friends.

| Trailside Park (5715 Trailside Drive) Trailside Park has two separate sides that accommodate small and large dogs. Both have sodded and natural surfaces for the hounds to run and play. There are benches and shade shelters for owners to relax while the dogs play. At Trailside, there is also a 1-mile off-leash trail, where your dog can run free, but make sure to pay attention to the signs identifying areas where dogs must be on a leash. |

Library Field (1255 Park Ave and 13th St) This big, open field on the north side of the Park City Library and Jim Santy Auditorium is a neighborhood gem that is perfect for dogs who love to fetch. Throughout the day, you'll find dogs of all breeds chasing sticks and balls or chilling in the shade while their owners visit with other humans.
The Woods at Parley's Lane (4275 Sunrise Drive) The Woods is a smaller, off-leash park with plenty of room for your dog to play. This half-acre dog area has training/exercise features to keep your four-legged friend fit and healthy. While your pet burns some calories, you can rest on the benches provided. The Woods Trailhead also provides options to extend your time with your pet walking along a local trail!
Heber City Dog Park (254 W 650 N, Heber City) Located on the north end of Heber, this park provides a grassy, fully fenced area, along with a small bench with shade. Clean-up bags are provides, and there are separate areas for large and small dogs.
Midway Town Dog Park is located at the base of the Valais and Interlaken communities off Burgi Lane, an offers a large fenced play space.

With over 400 miles of interconnected trails, our multi-user trails require keen attention to trail etiquette. And as always, remember there is no Poop Fairy, so please clean up after your furry friends!

#1 ROUND VALLEY
(Easy - 7.1 mile loop)
Round Valley is a 1,500 acre playground boasting 30 miles of trails best accessed at Quinn's Junction trailhead (on Gillmor Way across from the Park City Sports Complex) offering both on and off-leash areas. There is also decent parking on the Park Meadows' side, off the northern tip of Meadows Drive, and a small parking area at the Old Ranch Road access point, 1/4 mile north of the 4600 intersection.

#2 McCLEOD CREEK TRAIL
(Moderate - 6 miles out and back)
Another favorite! It's easiest to start at Willow Creek Park, where there's ample parking. This is an easy hike with McLeod Creek, meandering alongside the trail and providing some swimming fun.
#3 ROB'S TRAIL
(Moderate - 4.2 miles out and back)
Rob's Trail is 4 miles long, and gradually ascends alpine terrain with aspens and pines all around. Although the hike is moderately to fully shaded, there are no water sources. Also, be mindful of parking regulations on Bear Hollow Drive! |

#4 RUN-A-MUK TRAIL AREA
Run-a-Muk includes approximately 2 miles of trail to wander with your leashed dog or 43-acres to let them run free through aspen groves and open shrublands off the access road to Utah Olympic Park. Dog park hours are dawn to dusk.
